Since 2015, Bob Rogers has been an adjunct history professor (online) for Baptist University of Florida. He is the author of Mississippi Baptists: A History of Southern Baptists in the Magnolia State, published in 2025 by the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board in conjunction with the Mississippi Baptist Historical Commission. In 2024, Rogers retired after 43 years of ministry: 33 years as a pastor in Mississippi and Georgia, and 10 years as a hospital chaplain in Mississippi. He continues to teach history online, and teaches an adult Bible class at Temple Baptist Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. For many years, he taught the Bible at a local prison (if you noticed a pattern here– yes, he loves to teach, but he also loves to read and learn.) Rogers has a B.A. in English from Mississippi College, M.Div. in Biblical Studies, and Th.D. in church history from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He likes to review Christian books and history books, write about theology, history, and practical Christian living, particularly the subject of prayer– and he loves to hear and tell funny stories. For ten years, Bob wrote a column that was published in a few newspapers, called “Holy Humor,” with light-hearted true stories about church life. You can find some of those stories on this blog. He enjoys sports (Southern Miss, New Orleans Saints, Houston Astros), and since retirement, he can often be found cruising his road bike down the Longleaf Trace, if he’s not reading a book or spoiling grandchildren.

Bob said “I do” to Mary in 1980. They serve in Re/Engage marriage enrichment ministry through Temple Baptist Church, as they share the story of how God redeemed their marriage. They have three grown children, all of whom are married, and seven grandchildren.
